FAQs

IMAP is Internet Message Access Protocol and POP is Post Office Protocol. Both email protocols that retrieve emails from a mail server. However IMAP keeps emails on the server, so no matter where you log in on any device you can see your emails – whereas POP downloads emails to a single device, so if you login on a different device you won’t be able to see old emails. It is for this reason that we recommend IMAP over POP.

SMTP stands for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol – it’s a way to send emails via the internet. It is used by providers like google and outlook, and ensure emails are coming from a verified source.

Your set up details will look like this:

Username: Your email
Password: Your email password
Incoming Server: mail.yourdomain
IMAP Port: 993 POP3 Port: 995
Outgoing Server: mail.yourdomain
SMTP Port: 465
IMAP, POP3, and SMTP require authentication.

You may have received a welcome email containing this information – if not, contact your email provider and ask them to send the IMAP settings shown above.

An email client is the software you use to send and receive emails – such as Outlook, Gmail, Apple Mail, or Thunderbird.

If you are not receiving emails from your website, your emails are likely being blocked by your email provider. Ask them to whitelist the incoming email address. Ask for SMTP details from your email provider and make sure your website is sending via SMTP. WordPress emails often get blocked by email clients, particularly Outlook and Gmail.

If using WordPress, you can add a plugin to connect your SMTP details – such as WP Mail SMTP Plugin.

You will need the following SMTP details from your email provider:

SMTP Host: The outgoing server listed in your email provider’s SMTP settings.
Encryption: The type of encryption used for your SMTP connection (TLS, SSL, or none).
SMTP Port: The port your provider uses for SMTP connections.
Authentication: This option turns authentication on or off. Most providers require it to be on.
SMTP Username: Your email address.
SMTP Password: You’ll need to generate an app password for your account.

First check with your provider that there isn’t a server or payment issue. It may be that your account has reached it’s memory limit. Try deleting emails from your inbox, outbox or drafts. If the issue persists, get your email provider to check for issues with your account as emails may be bouncing.
